Blog 3
In my second blog I talked about how my mentor, Tara works a lot with children one on one. She will actually go to their homes and work with the kids. There are usually two different reasons as to why she does this. One reason is to do an evaluation of the child to see if they have some kind of disorder, and to see if they qualify to get professional help provided by the school district. The other reason is to help teach kids that have a disorder. These kids can't really learn in a classroom environment at a normal school because of their disorder, which is where Tara comes in. She'll come in to teach the kid in a fun way. She doesn't like teach them math or science. These kids are still very young, they are around three to five years old. So she teaches them more of the basic things we learn in preschool and when we're very young. So she teaches them how to answer simple questions, helps them play with toys, and sings songs with them. A couple days ago, I was able to witness and watch Tara work with a kid like this. I was definitely a little uncomfortable at the beginning because I'm not very used to seeing or interacting with people who have disorders. But by the end of the session I was actually very comfortable. It was amazing to see how smart this little girl was and see how cute she was. She had a very amazing and cute smile. She was also very smart and it was amazing to see her answer questions Tara asked her. Tara has actually been working with her for around three years now and it's amazing to see how much she has learned and how smart she has become. I am very lucky to be able to see her again in the future, and maybe I'll even be able to play with her too.
